The city is easily reached by train from Milan and Turin, and it is a great place for those who want to see and authentic Italian culture and history. Novara was founded in the 1st century BC as a Roman colony, and therefore many historical artifacts of that era remain here. During the Middle Ages, Novara experienced many wars, and also underwent many changes, which influenced the further development of the city. The most interesting for the traveler is the historic center where you can see unique artistic and architectural masterpieces, such as the Basilica of San Gaudencio, the Early Christian Baptistery, the medieval Broletto, the Church of San Marco, the Castle of Visconseo Sforcesco, as well as the Cathedral of Novara, which is one from the oldest religious buildings in Piedmont.
