Jurmala in 1 day

Jurmala is the largest and most popular resort town in Latvia, located 25 km from Riga. It is a long strip (32 km long and 3 km wide) along the Gulf of Riga. The city was formed as a result of the unification of the villages of Lielupe, Bulduri, Dzintari, Maiori, Dubulti, Jaundubulti, Melluzi, Asari and Valtermuiža, which are now parts of the city. A unique architectural feature of Jurmala is the predominance of wooden houses of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. Most of the buildings are designed by Baltic German and Latvian architects, but there are also works by Russian, Finnish and other architects. The architecture of Jurmala is characterized by the styles of classicism, national romanticism and modernity. The city has an official list of 414 historic buildings under protection, as well as more than 4,000 wooden structures. Jurmala is beautiful and interesting in any season of the year, but most of the visitors come in the summer months, from June to August.
