Bologna is one of the oldest cities of Europe. The settlement existed in the pre-Roman era, and the modern city is considered one of the most comfortable cities for life in Italy. Bologna is not so popular tourist destination as Venice or Milan, but visiting this ancient place is an unforgettable experience. The city is famous for its towers. During the Middle Ages, the city had more than 80 towers. One of them, Torre Azinelli, is the tallest leaning medieval tower in the world. (97.2 meters) Bologna is also known for its elegant porticoes. In total, there are over 45 km (28 miles) of porticoes in the city. Not everyone knows that Bologna is considered the "culinary capital of Italy". It is the birthplace of the famous Bolognese sauce, homemade pasta like tagliatelle and tortellini, mortadella, salami and the famous Parmesan cheese.
