Bologna in 1 day

Bologna in 1 day

Bologna is a city and the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy, of which it is also the largest one. It is the seventh most populous city in Italy, with about 400,000 inhabitants and 150 different nationalities. It is known as the Fat City for its rich cuisine, and the Red City for its Spanish-style red tiled rooftops. Bologna is also called the Learned City because it is home to the oldest university in the world. The city appeared thanks to the Etruscans (ancient Greek tribes) and was called the Felsina. Then the area was captured by the Celts, and some time later it became part of the Roman Empire. It was granted the status of a free city in the 13th century. Since the 17th century, Bologna has been considered an intellectual and scientific center. Famous for its towers, churches and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical center, thanks to a careful restoration and conservation policy which began at the end of the 1970s. The route “Bologna in 1 day” covers the most part of historical center sights: the Piazza Maggiore, the Bologna Cathedral, the Palazzo Accursio, The Two Towers, The basilica of Santo Stefano, The Archiginnasio of Bologna and much more interesting attractions.
