Ljubljana is a small but very self-sufficient city, where you can see a medieval castle, Roman ruins, modern art and coffee on the banks of the Ljubljana River in one day. The city is compact, lively and a bit fabulous — especially if you know where to look for dragons.
Three places that really catch on:
Dragon Bridge — Dragon Bridge across the Ljubljana River is not just a bridge, but a symbol of the whole city. Four bronze dragons on the corners guard the crossing from the first one thousand nine hundred years. According to legend, it was here that Jason defeated the monster. Locals say that if an unmarried girl crosses the bridge, dragons wave their tails.
Ljubljana Castle — you can climb the hill by funicular, and in a minute in front of you — a panorama of the whole city. The castle has existed for more than nine hundred years, and inside there is a prison, a chapel and an observation tower.
Tivoli Park is the largest park in the city, where lovers run, walk with dogs and just sit on benches. No tourist bustle — just the city in its usual rhythm.
Interesting fact: Ljubljana is one of the few European capitals where the city center is completely closed to cars.
This route is a ready day in Ljubljana: from baroque churches to contemporary art, from Roman walls to dinner in an old inn. Just go and watch.
