Graz is the second largest city in Austria, located on the banks of the river Mur. There is no bustle of large capitals, but there are cozy streets, red roofs and coffee, which is drunk here slowly. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walking around it is a pleasure without much effort.
Three places that really impress
The double spiral staircase is an architectural mystery of the fifteenth century. The two marches go up without crossing at any time. How builders achieved this without modern tools is still a matter of debate.
The island on the moor is an artificial island in the middle of the river, built before the 2,000th cultural year. Today there is a cafe, a stage and a place where locals just sit and look at the water.
The clock tower on Schlossberg Hill is a symbol of the city, which is more than four hundred years old. Interestingly, the clockwise direction here is not as you used to: the big one shows the hours, and the small one shows the minutes.
Graz is Arnold Schwarzenegger's hometown. The city has a museum dedicated to him.
This route will take you through twenty-two points of the city — from the children's museum to the modern gallery. You will see Graz as the townspeople themselves see it. Just go and see.
