Welcome to the second day of our route! Brussels is a city that was not formed as a tourist center, but as a political and industrial hub. It is here that the key institutions of the European Union are located, and decisions are made every day that affect millions of people. In the twentieth century, the city was radically rebuilt: the historic quarters were massively demolished to make way for modern offices — this process even received the separate name “Brusselisation”. But despite this, Brussels has retained its chaotic structure and the stark contrast between the old and the new. This city is not trying to be liked - and that is why it is often remembered.
Today will be:
The Musée des Instruments de Musique is one of the world's largest music museums with a collection of instruments from different eras and continents.
The Palais Royal is the official residence of the Belgian monarchy, which is used for state events, although the king does not live here.
The Porte de Hale/Hallepoort is the only surviving part of the medieval city fortifications of Brussels
Interesting fact:
The Royal Palace in Brussels is only open to visitors a few weeks a year — usually in the summer when the king officially “leaves” the residence.
Have a nice route!
