Porto is a city of ocean wind, steep streets and warm light over the Dora. It attracts with the taste of coffee and port wine, conversations on the terraces and the colors of the tiles.
The route “Porto: the whisper of the Atlantic” begins on the terrace of the Monastery of Serra do Pilar: from here you can see both the Louis I bridge and the tiled roofs of the old town. We go down to the traditional wine boats that once carried barrels from the valley and head across the bridge to the Porto Cathedral. Next up is the lively Ribeira Square, the Gothic Church of St. Francis and the exquisite Palace of the Exchange. Climbing to the Vitoria site gives frames that do not need filters. On the way — the Blue Tile Shower Chapel and the legendary Lello bookstore; for respite — a warm custard tart and a sip of espresso. We finish in the Gardens of the Crystal Palace, then the House of Music and a walk to the mouth of the Dor. The end is dinner at Brazão Salgueiros.
It is interesting to know: it is from the ancient Portucale that the name of Portugal comes. And the bridge of Louis the First was designed by colleague Gustave Eiffel. This route collects the most delicious and spectacular corners of the city — the perfect plan for the first acquaintance and for those who want to fall in love with Porto again.
