Welcome to the first day of your trip to Lisbon. Ahead is an acquaintance with a city that stands on seven hills, looks out over the Atlantic and has been the starting point for sea expeditions that changed the map of the world for centuries. Lisbon is one of the oldest capitals in Europe: it is older than London and Paris, survived the earthquake of 1755, but has retained its layering — from medieval quarters to avant-garde architecture of the 21st century. Today you will see: Torre de Belém is a symbol of the era of great geographical discoveries and the point from which seafarers set out into the ocean. Castelo de São Jorge is a strategic height with the best panoramas of the city and the key to understanding its defensive history. MAAT — Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia — modern Lisbon in the form of architecture, art and technology on the banks of the Tagus. Interesting fact: after the earthquake of 1755, Lisbon became one of the first cities in the world to use seismic-resistant technologies - wooden frames of buildings were specially tested, forcing soldiers to march around them, imitating shocks. Have a nice walk and a good first day of exploring Lisbon!
