Welcome to the first day of your trip to Cardiff. Ahead are two days of acquaintance with the capital of Wales: the city, which grew from a Roman fort, became the largest coal port in the world in the nineteenth century, and only in 1955 officially received the status of capital. Today you will see the key locations of the route: Cardiff Castle is the historic heart of the city with more than two thousand years of continuous history. • Bute Park is a green corridor along the River Taff that reveals a different scale and rhythm of Cardiff. National Museum Cardiff is a museum with one of the strongest Impressionist collections in the UK outside London. Other locations of the day will open gradually — as the route progresses. Interesting fact: Cardiff Castle is one of the few places in Britain where Roman walls, a Norman fortress and a Victorian palace are preserved on one hill. Have a good walk and a good first day of acquaintance with Cardiff.
