Best of Edinburgh — Day 2

Congratulations on the second day of the route through Edinburgh — a city where the relief directly influenced the authorities, and the ideas of the Enlightenment changed the very idea of the city. Here, the medieval Old Town with vertical dense buildings and the rationally designed New Town of the 18th century exist nearby, within a few kilometers of walking distance.
Edinburgh Castle is a fortress on the extinct volcano Castle Rock, strategic control over which for centuries meant control of the city; it is here that the oldest coronation regalia of the British Isles are kept.
The Scottish National Gallery is Scotland's leading art institution, showing the country as part of the European artistic process while physically connecting the Old and New Town.
Dean Village is a former mill district on the Water of Leith, where the preserved industrial planning of the 18th and 19th centuries opens up the economic “backround” of the capital.
Little known fact: some of Edinburgh's medieval streets have not disappeared, but have been preserved — new buildings were erected on top of the old ones, creating an underground level of the city that is still available today.
Have a nice walk!
