Welcome to the second day in Belfast — a city that has survived political conflicts, an industrial boom and a cultural revival and has been able to transform a complex past into a strong modern identity.
Belfast was once one of the great industrial centers of the British Empire, and its shipyards built the largest ships in the world.
Today on the route:
Ulster Museum is the largest museum in Northern Ireland and one of the best regional museums in Britain.
Belfast Castle is not a medieval fortress, but a 19th-century Victorian castle built for the Marquesses of Donegall.
Peace Wall Murals are murals on the walls of the Peace Line that tell of decades of conflict between Catholics and Protestants, the political struggle and the path to reconciliation.
Little known fact: The Peace Wall in Belfast has not yet been completely demolished. Some of the walls and gates are closed at night even in the 2020s. It is the only city in Western Europe where real physical boundaries are maintained within the city.
