Cadiz is a city that smells of salt and orange peel. It's easy to breathe here and it's easy to fall in love with everyday trifles. It is said to have been founded by Phoenicians long before our era — it is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe; and the local carnival is famous for its witty songs and street cheer.
The route begins at the beach of Santa Maria del Mar, where the waves push against the road. We head to the gate of the Puerta de Thierra and through the avenue of Canalejas we exit into the heart of the city. Coffee break at Café de Levante — and a short visit to the Oratory of the Holy Cave. Near the Town Hall, the Roman Theater awaits us, and in a few steps rises the Cathedral of Cadiz with a panoramic view of the ocean.
Next is the Central Market with generous gifts of the sea and an underground journey into antiquity in the archaeological complex of Gadir. Climb the Tavira Tower: the camera obscura shows the city as in the palm of your hand. Rest in Mina Square and a visit to the Cadiz Museum, then - the Plaza of Spain, the Alameda Gardens, the Park of Genovese and the Bolshoi Theater of Falha.
The final part is to the coast: the fortress of Santa Catalina, the bay of La Caleta, the fortress of San Sebastian. And the final, which I do not want to shorten, is dinner in the restaurant El Faro de Cadiz: fresh fish, good mood and the ocean are very close. This route gives a taste of the city to which you want to return.
