Lille is a lively city with a friendly rhythm, student courtyards, the smell of fresh pastries and Flemish red brick on the facades. We invite you to the hiking route “Cultural Lille”.
Start at the Lille Botanical Garden — here it is easy to gain strength before a walk. Next is the cultural center in Vazem, and a few streets away there are the Paris Gate and the City Hall with its high bell tower. It is worth staying at the Palace of Fine Arts: its collection is among the most significant in France. Through the Republic Square we go to the Riure Palace, and from there — to the Plaza General de Gaulle (Great Square), where under the arcades of the Old Exchange, connoisseurs of books and engravings find treasures. Near the Opera and the Lille Flandre station you can feel the urban energy, and the Notre Dame de la Trey Cathedral rises very close by — discreet on the outside and surprisingly bright on the inside. The finale is the greenery of the Citadel Park, the bastions of the Citadel of Lille and the zoo; after that we have a delicious rest in the river cafe La Guinguette de la Marine.
Interesting to know: every year at the beginning of September, Lille organizes the Brotheria - a giant fair that gathers hundreds of thousands of guests. And the Citadel has a colloquial nickname — the Queen of Citadels.
