Welcome to Prague, one of the few European cities that was almost not destroyed during the Second World War, so its historic center has preserved its medieval layout and more than a thousand years of architecture. The city was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire under Charles IV, the center of the Hussite Wars and the site of events that influenced European history—notably the Prague Defenestration of 1618, which began the Thirty Years' War. Today you will see: St. Vitus Cathedral is the main Gothic temple of the Czech Republic and the place of coronation of Czech kings. The Old Royal Palace is the political heart of Prague Castle, where decisions were made that changed Europe. Charles Bridge is a symbol of the 14th century city, which combines the Old Town and the Small Country. Interesting fact: Charles Bridge was laid on July 9, 1357 at 5:31am. The time was chosen not by chance — the date and hour form a symmetrical numerical sequence 1-3-5-7-9-7-5-3-1, which was considered mystically favorable. Have a nice walk!
